Award-winning artist Sonia's life-long passion for painting shows in her landscapes/seascapes, still lives, and portraits. Her work demonstrates her sensitivity and perception of the natural world. She is able to intuitively capture the essence of her portrait subjects, going beyond just a likeness.
Sonia has been fortunate to study with some of the nation’s leading painters. She studied with the nation’s renowned artist Everett Raymond Kinstler, a second-generation student of John Singer Sargent and the painter of 6 U.S. presidents and many luminaries; and with ERK’s nationally-known protégé Michael Shane Neal—one of the premier portrait artists of today and a master in all subjects. Sonia credits her growth to years of study and tutelage under these two nationally-known artists. Mr. Kinstler recently commented that Sonia has "a charm and lovely quality in painting children."
Sonia's work has been garnering many awards and rave reviews from her clients. Most recently, her full-length portrait “Emily” was juried in as a Finalist in the Fall 2009 Portrait Society of Atlanta’s national competition and was also awarded “Meritorious” recognition in the International 2009 Richeson 75 Figure/Portrait Competition and published in the exhibition book.
Two of Sonia's still life paintings were also awarded “Meritorious” in the International 2008 Richeson 75’s Still Life & Floral Competition and published in the exhibition book. In addition, Sonia’s pastel portrait “Andrew” was awarded “Best of Show” at the Wellesley Society of Artist's 2004 Exhibition.
Sonia was recently interviewed for “Wellesley This Week,” which airs on local Wellesley Cable Access television. Also, Page-Waterman Gallery of Wellesley is currently featuring her works in their window.
Sonia is a member of the Portrait Society of America, Oil Painter’s of America, Allied Artists of America, the Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists, and the Wellesley Society of Artists. Sonia’s work hangs in private collections throughout the United States.
